Native POP: People of the Plains - A Gathering of Arts and Culture is an annual celebration of Native American arts and culture at Main Street Square in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota every third weekend in July. Art, Performance, Culture, Community.

2023 IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

ELIGIBILITY

In accordance with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990, participation in the Gathering is only open to enrolled members of federally recognized tribes, with preference given to artists from Great Plains Tribes

DIVISIONS

Please select the division that applies to the majority of work you will be exhibiting, and/or entering for judging.

DIVISION I || ADORNMENT

Adornment A: Jewelry, Necklaces, Belts, Bolos, Bracelets, Rings, Earrings

Adornment B: Clothing, Regalia, Fashion which includes Footwear, Hats, Purses (with or without the predominance of quillwork or beadwork).

DIVISION II || TWO-DIMENSIONAL

Two-Dimensional A: Painting, Glass, Ledger art

Two-Dimensional B: Photography, Mixed-media, Textiles, Printmaking

DIVISION III || THREE-DIMENSIONAL

Three-Dimensional A: Sculpture work, Figurative Objects, Dolls (Bronze, Stone, Glass, Beadwork, Quillwork).

Three-Dimensional B: Culturally based work, both traditional and decorative, inspired by tradition, e.g., bows and arrows, cradleboards, boxes, weapons, shields, furniture, lamps, musical instruments, bullroarers, cinches and other horse gear, bags, pipes, hide paintings, parfleche items, masks.

EMERGING ARTISTS (3 year entry limit)

Please select this division if you meet the criteria below of an emerging artist. There are special awards and support for this division. (If you select ‘Emerging’, you cannot enter any other division. There is a three year maximum entry limit for this division.)

Emerging Artists: Entries in this division include artists who take risks and embrace challenges; whose developing voices reveal significant potential; who are rigorous in their approach to creation and production; who have some evidence of professional achievement but not a substantial record of accomplishment; and who are not recognized as established artists by other artists, curators, producers, critics, and arts administrators. BOOTH & DISPLAY

A single booth space measures 10’ x 10’. You may reserve more than one space. Booth space includes display and storage, which cannot extend beyond assigned tent space. The exhibitor’s booth must be open and staffed during all festival hours. Please note that artists must be present at their booths, with the exception of breaks. Exhibitors will be notified by email when they get their specific space assignment. Space assignments are not negotiable. 

SHARING

Accepted artists may select to share a booth space. Designation will be made on final acceptance form.

EQUIPMENT

Exhibitors may rent extra tables and chairs. Rental of these items are available through Main Street Square while supplies last. Exhibitors applying for a booth space with electricity are responsible for bringing their own 100-foot, heavy-duty, three-wire extension cord. Exhibitors must be prepared for sun, wind, hail, rain, and/or other weather conditions.

INSURANCE

Native POP is insured against public liability due to the conduct of the market. However, Native POP and Main Street Square are not liable to the exhibitor, and will not insure the exhibitor, for any damage to the exhibitor’s artwork, personal effects or any materials used in displaying artwork at the market or reception. Exhibitors shall make their own arrangements at their own expense for any desired insurance coverage protecting such artwork, personal effects, or materials. An insurance certificate is not required to participate in Native POP, except in special circumstances.

OUTDOOR EVENT/WEATHER POLICY

In the case of severe weather, exhibitor booth fees remain non-refundable. Native POP, Main Street Square, Downtown Rapid City, The Dahl Art Center/ RC Art Council is released from any and all liability of art, art sales, and damage that may happen due to any outdoor circumstances.

TAX INFORMATION

Exhibitors must adhere to State of South Dakota sales tax guidelines. Native POP will distribute Department of Revenue worksheets to exhibitors at the event. The exhibitor is responsible for filling out the report and returning it to the local Department of Revenue. 

FEES

The fee for each 10’ x 10’ booth space is $250. There is no application fee. Upon acceptance to the show, exhibitors will be notified and must then submit booth fee by June 1, 2023. There are no refunds for cancellations. Additional rental items and lunches may be ordered. Please refer to application for pricing. All prices include 6.5% sales tax.

FESTIVAL GROUND LOGISTICS

Set-up begins at 7:00 am on Saturday, July 08th of 2023, with break down Sunday, July 09th at 4:00pm. Exhibitors should first check in at the Registration Booth. Additional load-in instructions will be provided through email one week prior to the festival. Vendor hospitality includes one complimentary lunch for the artist each day, water, and breaks throughout the day. Additional lunches may be purchased.

PHOTO & Video RIGHTS

Native POP reserves the right to photograph any or all artists and their works submitted for the juried awards exhibit and art market, for publicity.
